Job Title: Principal Adviser - Editorial
Description

Rio Tinto is a leading international mining group headquartered in the UK. Rio Tinto's business is in finding, mining and processing mineral resources. Major products are aluminium, copper, diamonds, energy (coal and uranium), gold, industrial minerals (borax, titanium dioxide, salt) and iron ore.

The Corporate Communications Team drives all elements of global corporate communications - publications strategy (external and internal), branding, editorial services, web design, internal and external communication with stakeholders and communications production.

The Role:

Reporting to Principal Advisor - Communication Services you are accountable for:

  • Developing and implementing the strategy for Rio Tinto publications
  • Inputting, shaping and implementing the Group wide plan for communications services - including tone of voice, editorial services, brand, communications production and agency management
  • Delivering best practice across all channels - print and online
  • As Senior member of the Communication Services Team, mentoring the Editorial Team (Adviser - Editorial) and acting in charge of the Communication Services Team when required
  • Developing content for the Annual Report and acting as Editor and main writer for Rio Tinto Reports Group wide newsletter and external quarterly magazine for shareholders
  • Responsible for editorial input and guidance for news items for www.riotinto.com
  • Sourcing, writing and developing stories for intranet site and organise translation into French
  • Executive speeches and presentations as required e.g. CEO, Chairman, AGM, investor relations presentations
  • Advice and consultancy to the internal communications team on content of staff announcements
  • Keeping an overview on best practice in terms of external communications within the mining and other industries
  • Back-up for media relations role

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • Appropriate tertiary level qualifications ideally a journalism degree
  • Proven journalist experience of working on a newspaper and inhouse at a large corporate dealing with senior personnel
  • Experience of leading a team and working across a wide geographical location on external and internal media
  • Excellent project management, planning and scheduling skills
  • Excellent written communication and inter personnel skills
